With a tremendous amount of heartbreak we have announced that the Lantern Fayre 2015 will not be going ahead. Despite having managed to harness the energies and support of great partners, performers, and artists from across the city, our fund raising efforts have not been able to secure the £40,000 needed to put on the free community arts festival.
It has been a very difficult decision to reach as everyone involved has worked tirelessly to create a fantastic and vibrant program of music, theatre, cinema, workshops, and arts based activities. However, with core funding being turned down, a key sponsor walking away, and our crowd funding campaign having received very little interest, we simply cannot take the risk of going ahead with the event and potentially finding ourselves not being able to pay our very talented and hard working artists, performers and staff.
I would like to thank all of our partners and supporters who have believed in the project and have backed us all the way, and would like to particularly praise the efforts of our staff and volunteers who have gone above and beyond to try and bring a wonderful program of arts into the community.
It is becoming very difficult to secure funding for public events in the present climate of financial uncertainty, but we will now be gathering ourselves and looking ahead to next year to find new ways to ensure the Lantern Fayre can return.
